Climate Change Response of Franz Josef Glacier
The aim of this research is to establish the nature of process-response
linkages between climate and glacier behaviour at the Franz Josef Glacier,
and to use knowledge of those linkages to model the response of the
glacier to climate change. The project includes the establishment phase
of a sustainable programme of long-term monitoring of mass balance at
the Franz Josef Glacier. Data collected include climate (temperature,
precipitation), glacier dynamics (velocity, ice thickness, ice surface
slope) and mass balance (ablation, accumulation) parameters as well
as regular monitoring of glacier terminus position using GPS.
