Car Culture and Street Racing in Christchurch
Street racing is a major problem internationally
and locally in Christchurch. Research has suggested a potential link
between official organised race meetings and unofficial street racing
such as that seen in Columbo street.
This research is trying to identify some of the key factors that may influence the behaviour of “street-racers”. This is being done through a series of interviews with three groups:
- people in the street-racer fraternity
- other young people who are not into street racing
- attendees at motor racing events.
Themes that would be looked at would include attitudes to and involvement in street racing, level of interest in motor racing and background information such as age, sex and driving experience.
