Research Overview

Institutions for management of resources define the do’s and don’ts that people develop for the management of these resource. This research focuses specifically on reef resources and their management in the Maldives which are located in the Indian Ocean. My aim is to explore the value placed by communities on their local reef resources and to use this knowledge to gain an understanding of the management institutions that exist locally. The ecological, cultural, social and economic values of the resources may be relevant factors which determine how the resources are managed by local communities.
