Research

Concentrated on management of ocean and lake-shores. There are few quantitative measurements of shore processes and change in New Zealand. Therefore most issues of coastal management require measurement, assessment and interpretation of the physical coastal environment and human activities. This is important for lake-shores and open coasts. Lake water levels are regulated for hydro-power generation and can result in adverse effects to shore development and human activities. Research is being carried out at Lakes Mahinerangi, Pukaki and Waikaremoana. Main focus of open coast research is on coastal change and sustainable use of the mixed sand and gravel beaches around Napier.
